Kendo and fencing clothing?
I’m really into sword fighting, there’ a thrill and adrenaline that you will never feel anywhere else, I always use sticks and challenge my cousins to combat but I want to try using a real iron blade, I want to use a katana. In kendo you wear all kinds of protection such as face masks and all kinds of pads and things but kendo fighters usually use wooden swords. Even dull antique katanas that you can buy at a mall are dangerous and can inflict serious injury, is typical kendo protection enough to protect me from a actual steel blade katana? In fencing duels you use real swords so you obviously wear better protection but the typical fencing sword is a sabre and a katana is at least twice as deadly as a sabre so would fencing protection be enough? Basically I’m asking what kind of protection would I need for this? And if you could give me a link to where I can buy this stuff that would be great, thanks!
first of all kendo armor will run you around $1000 us dollars those dull swords at the mall would never hold up to ANY use they are fake the armor( forgot the name) would not hold up to a steel sword, even a dull one in fencing they do not use a ( real) sword anymore instead special practice swords designed to avoid injury( injuries still happen) I also disagree that a katana is twice as deadly as its western counterparts( that is an argument for another time). really you are risking serious injury as is with the wooden sticks even, you need to stop and find a teacher if you really want to continue.
